It could well turn out to be a rather pleasing day for Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, as it is claimed by the Daily Mail that their £30 million summer signing will be staying at the club.
As one of our punters quips, had we been shown that statement at the start of the season, we would have assumed that Eric Lamela had been so good that one of the best clubs in the world had come in for him. Sadly for Daniel Levy and indeed former manager Andre Villas Boas, that is certainly not the case.
Lamela has struggled to settle, been poor and has looked a shadow of the player who attracted which was at the time a club record bid. Despite this, Lamela is still attracting interest from a host of Serie A sides, with Roma and Inter Milan thought to be keen on the attacking player. Juventus are also monitoring his situation, and all three Italian Giants are hopeful that Spurs would at least consider allowing the player to leave.
The Lilywhites however seem to be intent on giving Lamela far more time to settle in – rightly so as our landlord notes. Under new manager Tim Sherwood, the club are playing with more attacking prowess and the hope is that their summer purchases bed in better because of this.
Will Lamela stay and come good? Let us know your thoughts below.
