Pete O’Rourke from Sky Sports has popped into the Football Transfer Tavern for an afternoon pint with news that a whole host of Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing Blackburn Rovers youngster Jack O’Connell during this summer’s transfer window.
The 19-year-old central defender, who penned a new contract with the Ewood Park-based club last summer, has been in impressive form while on loan at Rotherham United and York City during the previous season and that has seen him catch the eye of several Premier League sides.
Tottenham are the most notable name Pete mentions to interested punters interested in O’Connell but Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Premier League new boys Cardiff City are all thought to be keen on the Liverpool-born defender.
Rovers will be keen to keep their highly rated teenager, who recently captained England Under-19s during their European Under-19 Elite Round qualifiers, but as with any Championship club, the Venkys owned side are likely to have to sell if they receive the right offer.
Rovers view the commanding centre half as one for the future at the club and he is expected to make his debut for the first team next season if he turns down Premier League advances and remains in Lancashire.
Will any of the names above win out in the race to land O’Connell this summer? Rate this rumour below.
