The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino’s key men to stick around in North London for the foreseeable future. The Argentine has built quite the squad, with a number of talented young players becoming crucial under his managership.
They’re yet to really see the fruits of his labour, though, with most players still developing. So, in a few years time, they’ll likely be a much better position – and so they must keep hold of their key men until that point.
Fortunately, according to the Mirror, the club are making moves to do just that. According to the Mirror, Tottenham are planning to start talks with midfielder Dele Alli over a new deal, with the Lilywhites keen to ensure that he remains at the club for the foreseeable future.
The Englishman still has a contract through to 2022, but owing to a decent year or so for the Englishman, the club are clearly keen to reward him with fresh terms and a further extension.
Despite criticism from our resident Lilywhites regarding his form, Dele Alli has had far from a poor season. He has scored 5 domestic goals and earned 6 assists, and he has remained a key part of Pochettino’s plans.
Given his significance, then, securing his future makes sense, and Tottenham are reportedly hopeful that he will be tied down by the start of next season.
Dele Alli, regardless of his current form, is one of Europe’s best young players. He was one of the Premier League’s standouts last term, and he’s only going to get better.
It’s hard to believe, but we have yet to see the best of Dele, and he’s sure to be an even better player by the time his current contract ends.
For Tottenham, then, giving him a new deal simply makes sense. They need to keep him happy and keep him tied down, and this is the only way to do that.
