Metro brings some fresh speculation to the Football Transfer Tavern today.
The paper claims that Tottenham are preparing to start their transfer activity by submitting a £4 million bid for Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella.
Newly appointed Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood is expected to add to his squad before the transfer window closes at the end of the month, but as yet no business has taken place to see any new arrivals at White Hart Lane.
It is thought that a striker will be the main priority for the Lilywhites after it was revealed that England international Jermain Defoe would be departing the club for MLS outfit Toronto FC at the start of March.
This news left the tavern shocked but it certainly opens up free wages to spent on a new forward at White Hart Lane.
And according to today’s reports, it is the 30-year-old Italian international striker who Spurs and technical director Franco Baldini have now targeted to strengthen their attack.
The former Napoli man has reportedly been told that he is surplus to requirements in Turin and given the upcoming World Cup he is looking to gain regular football to put himself in contention for a surprise call up.
Our landlord explains that this situation could see Spurs landing Quagliarella for a cut price fee of only £4 million, something that has certainly left the few Tottenham fans in the bar excited.
