The Premier League returns on Saturday much to the relief of everyone in the Football Transfer Tavern as the international break fades away.
Tottenham supporters are looking forward to their match against Aston Villa on Sunday when reports emerge that they may face a surprise battle to keep hold of one of their many summer signings.
The Daily Star indicate that Tottenham are making plans to offer Brazilian star Paulinho a contract extension as they look to ward off interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the near future.
The 25-year-old, who moved to White Hart Lane in a £17 million summer transfer from Corinthians, has enjoyed a fine beginning to life under Andre Villas-Boas and has already become a mainstay in the Tottenham midfield.
Paulinho has now been reportedly attracting attention from Madrid despite only arriving in England a few months ago, however, thankfully for Tottenham fans, the club are already in discussions about extending his contract that expires in 2017. Daniel Levy is prepared to increase his current package of £3.6 million-a-year while also adding an extra year to his current deal.
Spurs supporters know far too well how Madrid can take advantage of the situation at White Hart Lane after they lured Gareth Bale to the Bernabeu in a world record £86 million deal over the summer.
This follows the capture of Luka Modric the previous season and now Villas-Boas will do everything possible to prevent a repeat scenario for the classy midfielder by making it worth his while to stay with the Lilywhites for the long-term.
How important a player is Paulinho for Tottenham? Surely he wouldn’t consider leaving just yet. Let us know your thoughts below.
