Mirror Football report that Tottenham are finally prepared to make a firm offer for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke as Villa boss Paul Lambert prepares for life after the striker.
Benteke, 22, has already made his indications clear to leave the West Midlands club during the current transfer window by submitting a transfer request and he has ambitions to play at the highest level of football.
Now Lambert has resigned himself to losing the Belgian international this summer but wants at least £25 million for the former Genk man in a transfer completed well before the September deadline so they can set about replacing Benteke.
Andre Villas-Boas and the ever prudent Daniel Levy want to reduce the asking price although Villa are prepared to keep hold of Benteke despite the striker being left out of the squad that has flown to Germany on tour recently.
Speaking in Germany, Lambert said: “You try to create the same things you had last season – that feeling of everyone in it together.
“You do that and it takes you a long way. I don’t mind where you get the goals from, you just have to keep trying to function as a team.”
