Tottenham Hotspur might be enjoying their football on the pitch and getting the results that they need, however, they must simply look to head into the transfer market and make additions in the summer if they are to improve further.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side could potentially do with some depth in their attacking ranks as injuries can leave them rather depleted at times and Spurs do not always have the reliable options a club competing for silverware should have.
However, it appears the club could be about to change all that if a report from Italy is anything to go by.
What’s the News?
According to information gathered by Tuttosport, who they claim ‘filters’ from England, Tottenham are interested in AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo.
It is stated that Spurs are preparing to make an imminent bid for the dynamic midfielder to beat off competition from Manchester City and Juventus this summer and are ready to offer at least €50million (£43.1m) to make it happen.
Zaniolo could be the exact type of player that Tottenham need to add to their squad in the summer and could be one that Pochettino may thrive having in his side.
The 19-year-old has quickly burst onto the scene with his performances for Roma in his breakthrough campaign and has been vitally important for the Serie A giants in the final third of the pitch.
The teenager has four goals and two assists to his name so far in his 23 top-flight appearances and has earned himself two caps from the Italy national team, which only further highlights the potential he has to offer.
Spurs arguably lack depth when it comes to wingers at the club, with Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura having had to do plenty of the work, whilst Zaniolo’s addition could also help with the goal threat should Harry Kane be unfortunate and miss further match-time in the future because of injury.
Whether Tottenham actually make a bid imminently for the attacker remains to be seen, especially at £43.1m that is being quoted, as that would mean breaking their club transfer record, which is something Daniel Levy is not exactly known for doing all too often.
However, it would be hard to say that Zaniolo would not be a good fit and Spurs should seriously think about trying to beat the competition to his signature.
