Mauricio Pochettino is hoping he can convince Tottenham Hotspur man to remain at the club by signing a new long-term deal.
The defender is thought to have been keen about moving away from the north London outfit this summer and was strongly linked with a departure, however, it appears he has been given a new chance under Pochettino.
The Belgium international, who was part of the squad that finished third at the World Cup, has featured regularly this season and also helped Spurs to record a 3-0 victory against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Monday night.
It is understood that there is a sense of urgency from Tottenham about a new deal, as the £36million-rated enforcer, as per Transfermarkt, is thought to have a minimum release clause of just £25m that will be activated next summer.
Alderwireld looked destined to leave White Hart Lane this summer, however, a move is yet to materialise for the defender.
It makes sense for Tottenham to try and tie him down to a new contract, with the current release clause sitting at a low figure.
However, if the 29-year-old does still want to leave, Spurs will surely find it difficult to keep him and may have to prepare themselves to cash in on him in January.
