Andre Villas Boas’ Tottenham side never seem to be out of the question at the Football Transfer Tavern at the minute, whether it be Gareth Bale’s potential departure or their chase for a forward and now the Daily Star have claimed the club are still in the hunt for Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke.
The forward has been praised highly in what has been a season of transition and turmoil for Aston Villa and has looked far beyond his 23 years of age. Having now proven that he has the quality needed to cut it at Premier League level, a host of clubs will be coming in for the striker in the summer and should Villa succumb to the drop, it seems almost certain that the talented Belgium international will leave.
AVB may well be resigned to the fact that Benteke will cost a fair amount of money – in the region of £15 million, yet with the Champions League looking a real possibility for the Lilywhites, that influx of money not to mention the potential cash should Spurs reach the Europa League final and possibly win the competition means they could more than afford to keep up with the other suitors Benteke has.
Spurs of course are frantically trying to keep Gareth Bale at the club yet are not too fussed about their other forwards and given their glances at not only Benteke but a host of other forwards to boot, both Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor will not be sitting as comfortably as they would like as the end of the season approaches.
