Christian Benteke’s future proved to be one of the transfer saga’s of last summer, and reports reaching the Football Transfer Tavern from the Birmingham Mail suggest history could be about to repeat itself.
Tottenham have once again made the Belgian striker a summer transfer target, with Tim Sherwood telling chairman Daniel Levy that a top class striker needs to be a priority.
£26 million signing Roberto Soldado has struggled at White Hart Lane, managing just two Premier League goals from open play all season.
Benteke has also struggled to match the form he produced during his debut season at Villa Park, with 11 goals from 29 appearances in all competitions this season.
However, that has not put Tottenham off attempting to sign the 23-year-old, who has previously said he will not decide on his future until after the summer’s World Cup.
Tottenham expressed an interest in Benteke last summer, and looked set to sign him until he agreed to a contract extension at Villa Park.
Tottenham are also considering moves for Loic Remy and Romelu Lukaku, who are both unlikely to make their loan deals at respective clubs Newcastle United and Everton permanent.
