Tottenham fans in the Tavern will be embracing the festive spirit after news that they are closing in on the capture of Marseille forward Michy Batshuayi.
The reports, from Foot 365, suggest that Spurs have ‘surged ahead of Arsenal’ in the race for the Belgian striker, who has scored 11 goals and 5 assists in 19 league appearances so far this season.
French sources claim that Tottenham ‘have opened informal talks’ with Marseille and are quietly confident a deal will be agreed with the French outfit when the transfer window reopens next month.
The news comes after other reports that the Lilywhites also sent a scout to the Ligue 1 fixture between Marseille and Bordeaux last night to watch the 22-year old Batshuayi – something that has already happened before.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men haven’t exactly lacked goals this season, having netted 28 times in 17 league fixtures. However, a youthful striker with quality would be a welcome addition to provide additional competition for England international Harry Kane.
But with Sunderland and Newcastle amongst the other clubs interested, as well as rivals Arsenal, the signing of Batshuayi may be a difficult task for Tottenham, not to mention the fact that there are suggestions Marseille are keen to hold on to their asset until the summer.
