The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are worried that they may get left behind this summer…
The Lilywhites have enjoyed a couple of very strong seasons under Mauricio Pochettino, but their lack of action with regards to transfers this summer is concerning supporters.
Indeed, despite their success in recent years, they have remained some way off their title rivals, with both Leicester City and Chelsea pipping them to the post over the last couple of years.
In truth, Tottenham desperately needed a strong summer as they looked to improve their side, but as of yet that hasn’t happened. According to the Independent, though, that could be about to change.
As reported in the Independent, Tottenham are ready to re-launch their pursuit of Ross Barkley this summer, with Everton said to be finally open to doing a deal for the Englishman. Barkley’s contract expires in a year, and the Englishman looks unlikely to sign a new deal. A departure, then, makes sense – and Tottenham are said to be looking to take advantage of that uncertainty.
A move to Tottenham could make sense for Barkley. White Hart Lane has proven to be a breeding ground for top, young, English talent. Players like Eric Dier and Dele Alli have moved to Spurs in recent years and really improved under the tutelage of Pochettino, and whilst Barkley is stalling at Everton – a transfer could change all of that.
What’s more, with Tottenham returning to the Champions League next season, they need all the depth that they can get – and Barkley would definitely provide that.
