Tottenham supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a routine 3-0 victory over AFC Wimbledon on Sunday.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men went into their clash with Neal Ardley’s side having lost just one of their preceding eight Premier League matches, a run of form which has moved them to within three points of fourth place Liverpool. And the North London outfit will be hoping to build upon their solid start to their FA Cup campaign as a brace from Harry Kane and a Jan Vertonghen strike secured a comfortable win over the Dons on Sunday, and earned them a trip to League Two outfit Newport County in round four following their success over Leeds United.
Consequently, there have been many happy Tottenham fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from The Daily Mail, which suggests that their club have been ‘regularly’ keeping tabs on Nottingham Forest’s FA Cup hero Ben Brereton this term.
The 18-year-old came up through the ranks at the City Ground to earn his senior debut for the club back in January 2017, coming on as a substitute in their defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road.
And the young forward has since added 37 further appearances for the Reds, in which time he has netted six goals and five assists to underline his talent, which came to the fore on Sunday with a goal and an impressive display in their 4-2 FA Cup win over Arsenal.
Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old’s stock has since risen after his excellent performance at the City Ground, yet recent reports suggest that Tottenham, alongside a few other Premier League sides, have been ‘regularly’ keeping tabs on Brereton for a while now such have been his fine efforts.
Thus, it very much remains to be seen what the future holds for the England youth international after his outstanding efforts last weekend.
Landlord’s verdict: Ben Brereton and Nottingham Forest produced an excellent display to see off FA Cup holders Arsenal in the third round on Sunday, and the 18-year-old has since earned several plaudits for his performance.
Yet that display is unlikely to come as much of a surprise to scouts of Tottenham, who have reportedly been ‘regularly’ keeping tabs on the forward in recent times having scored six goals and laid on five assists for the Reds since his senior debut back in January 2017.
And given Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of giving young players a platform from which to perform, Spurs may well be able to lure the Forest man to North London in the near future.
