Tottenham reportedly keen on £22.5m-rated midfielder, initial contact is expected

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the quality within their team…

The Lilywhites have one of the finest squads in the Premier League, with the likes of Dele Alli and Harry Kane perhaps the two most notable individuals.

Up and down the pitch, with Hugo Lloris at the foot of it all, some of Europe’s most talented players turn out each and every week in front of the Tottenham faithful.

According to Transfer Market Web, though, if Mauricio Pochettino gets his way, another top player may get added to that list. Transfer Market Web reports that Tottenham are keen on Barcelona man Andre Gomes, with initial contact now expected to take place at some point soon.

Gomes has had a tough time of it with his current club, but he rose to prominence particularly for his performances with the Portugease national team. A talented, deep-lying midfielder, he’d be a great option in Mauricio Pochettino’s team.

Rated at £22.5 million by Transfer Markt, a move would be costly for Daniel Levy and co, but with a loan move also mooted, the door appears open for a potential deal.

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern would love to see Gomes in London, and they’ll be paying extra attention to him over the coming months in the hope that a move comes to fruition.

Landlord’s Verdict

A deal for Gomes does make sense. He has really struggled at Barcelona, and so the Spanish side may be willing to move him on, though they wouldn’t likely tolerate anything less than the fee they paid for him.

Significantly, injuries to Mousa Dembele in recent weeks and months have got the fans in the pub thinking of potential replacements, and Gomes’ name has come up more than once.

If a deal is doable, then it makes sense for Tottenham.
