The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino to spend big money in January. The Lilywhites have stumbled in the Premier League this term, with inconsistency really plaguing their campaign so far, and it’s proving problematic as they look to begin another title charge.
Fortunately, the January transfer window offers a chance for the club to invest in fresh talent that could, in an ideal world, turn things around, and according to Sky Sports News, they could be looking to do just that. Sky Sports News reports that Tottenham are monitoring FC Lorient youngster Matteo Guendouzi, who has impressed for his current club this season.
Though currently playing in the second-tier in France, Ligue 2, he clearly hasn’t gone unnoticed, as Man City are also said to be keen.
A defensive midfielder by trade, he’s a great passer of the ball whilst he also often looks to break-up play and bring the ball forward, immediately drawing parallels with the likes of Harry Winks at Spurs.
As a young player, his arrival would be sure to delight Mauricio Pochettino, who has had an affinity for signing talented youngsters with high skill ceilings since moving to White Hart Lane. As with the likes of Dele Alli, if Pochettino is able to land the midfielder and mould him in his image, he could turn into a European great if all goes well.
Though he’s a bit of an unknown quantity at present, given his current stature, Guendouzi is clearly a talented player.
The key detail to note here is that, at 18-years-old, he’s a young and inexperienced player, and so we won’t really know how good he is until he’s in the Premier League.
That being said, the Tottenham scouting network has done well in recent years, and so you’d be wise to bet your money on this being a slam dunk if they land him.
