Tottenham’s squad is full of talent, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the squad that Mauricio Pochettino has built…
From front to back, Tottenham’s team is littered with quality, with Harry Kane leading the line and Hugo Lloris standing at the foot of the pitch.
Charged with controlling the middle of the park, Mousa Dembele is also a key part of proceedings at the club, but according to ESPN, his time at Tottenham could be coming to an end.
ESPN report that Mauricio Pochettino is ‘planning for life after’ the Belgian, with injury problems posing a major concern for his long-term future. Significantly, £30m Ross Barkley is touted as an option – whilst Mousa Sissoko could also be repackaged in the heart of the midfield.
The key takeaway here, though, is that Dembele’s time at Tottenham could be coming to a close. A foot injury has caused him problems over the last few months, and it’s a problem that looks destined to remain as such until his career comes to an end.
It’s a shame, because on his day he is simply unstoppable. He has controlled the Tottenham midfield since moving to the club, and alongside Victor Wanyama has formed one-half of arguably the Premier League’s best midfield.
Tottenham can’t write him off quickly, but at the same time, Pochettino needs to look forward.
Dembele is a top player, but equally, both Barkley and Sissoko would represent decent solutions to the issue.
At 30-years-old, the Belgian can’t play on forever, and whilst it’s going to be a massive transition for the club, it’s wise that they are already thinking about how best to manage it.
