The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are desperate for their side to land a few big names this summer…
Whilst top teams like Chelsea and Man City are spending big this summer, Tottenham are remaining comparatively quiet – and that leaves reason for concern for the fans in the Transfer Tavern.
The Lilywhites fell short in the Premier League title race last season, and their lack of activity means that that situation may worsen in the next campaign. Unless something changes, of course.
Tottenham’s silence, though, could simply be a veil over what is actually happening behind the scenes at White Hart Lane, with a major name reportedly on the shopping list of the London-based outfit.
According to French outlet Le Parisien, Tottenham are amongst the sides keen on a move for PSG man Serge Aurier. Significantly, the Lilywhites are said to be playing the waiting game – with the hope being that the French side will reduce their €25 million (£22.3 million) demands as the end of the transfer window edges ever closer.
Of course, Kyle Walker’s move to Man City has left a large gap in the Tottenham squad, with a new right-back a vital acquisition this summer. Aurier would certainly fit the bill, having been impressing for PSG in recent years.
Aurier is undoubtedly one of Europe’s best defenders, so this move would certainly suggest a change in strategy at Tottenham. Typically more receptive to a buy young strategy, Aurier is a fully developed player – but that could be just what is needed at White Hart Lane.
Clearly, there is a demand for trophies at the club, and buying young is a very long process. Tottenham clearly need to sign a few established stars in order to put in a title pursuit over the coming season – and buying someone like Aurier would certainly send a message.
If he is available, Tottenham could do no better than the Ivorian.
