Tottenham reportedly ready to add extra incentive as Pochettino considers surprising transfer move

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating the North London derby this weekend. The Lilywhites are set to take on Arsenal on Saturday in a game that is sure to pack out the pub, with so many fans eager to see how it’s going to go. Spurs, given their recent form, will be the favourites, but you can never count out the Gunners – especially when Tottenham are involved.

In the lead-up to the game, though, the attention of the fans in the pub has been centred around a recent article by the Evening Standard. The publication writes that Mauricio Pochettino is keen to upgrade his squad and has identified Watford star Richarlison as a surprise target. Significantly, it is also said that the club could be willing to sweeten the deal with the inclusion of a fringe player or two, such as Josh Onomah.

Richarlison, of course, only joined the Premier League over the summer, but he has made a remarkable start to life in England. Having bagged 4 goals and 2 assists in the league already, Watford’s impressive form has been due in large part to his sensational start.

That said, a move would still be a shock. Though he’s started well, he is not yet proven over a long period of time, not to mention the fact that at 20-years-old, his potential is not yet clear. He may be a good signing, of course, but Watford would demand a premium based on his current form, and that’s not something that Tottenham have typically gone for in recent years.

The mere prospect of interest, though, has left the fans in the Transfer Tavern feeling very excited indeed.

Landlord’s Verdict

At 20-years-old, Richarlison’s potential is limitless, and so it will be very interesting to see how his career will pan out. One thing is certain: he has made a fantastic start.

However, his start has been just that – a start. He hasn’t done it at the highest level for a very long time, and so it wouldn’t be wise for Tottenham to spend big on an unproven player. Not to mention the fact that Spurs already have so much young talent to¬†develop within their ranks. They would be far wiser to move for an older player that is proven as they look to bulk out the squad.
