Tottenham Hotspur will need to make a number of additions to their side in the summer if they are to achieve silverware next season. Although they have a chance of obtaining glory in the Champions League at the moment, domestic performances will have concerned some in recent weeks.
And, it appears Spurs have been keeping note of one player who could help improve their squad immensely and decided to take a closer look at him recently.
What’s the News?
According to a report by Football Insider, Tottenham watched Joao Felix in action in Thursday night as they continued to assess the wonderkid.
And, they could not have witnessed him at a better moment, as the 19-year-old ran riot against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League.
Joao stole the show as he netted a hat-trick and provided the other goal for Benfica in their 4-2 quarter-final demolition of the Bundesliga outfit.
Felix has been nothing but sensational for Benfica this season and the game against Frankfurt on Thursday night was further proof of his ability and the potential he has to become a world-class player in the future.
His performances have attracted a number of clubs in the past and Tottenham’s name just appears to be the latest to join in the hunt for his signature.
And, there is no doubt that the 19-year-old would bring even more quality to the side with his attacking ability, as he is extremely versatile and is a very technical player that has bundles of creativity which is something Spurs could look to capitalise on.
Pochettino’s side have lacked quality in the final third at times and have become heavily reliant on the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli to get them out of danger, whilst adding Felix could help to give them another outlet.
Also, the Argentine manager is rather notorious for his work with youngsters and taking them to the next level, so there is no reason as to why the teenager cannot thrive under his guidance and develop into a world-class talent.
However, one problem that Tottenham may face in trying to sign Felix is the fee that Benfica are likely going to demand for him. With a minimum release clause set at around £106million, Spurs will have to smash their £42m club record figure they spent on Davinson Sanchez by some distance.
Whether Daniel Levy is prepared to do that remains to be seen.
