Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking smug as the Daily Mirror revealed they are set to come in at the last minute and beat West Ham to Basel defender Fabian Schar.
The Hammers have had to put their move on hold as they are currently sorting out their managerial situation.
This has allowed their London rivals to poke their noses in and Daniel Levy will hope he can capitalise on the situation and complete a deal.
West Ham have been long term admirers of the Swiss international and they were confident of signing him as his contract expires in the summer.
But they knew it would take some grafting because he has a clause which allows him to have one year extended on to his deal at Basel.
Schar has played in the Champions League and Europa League, so with his experience he would be a good signing for either Premier League club.
