Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern this afternoon have been left disappointed after reports emerged that long-term transfer target Joao Moutinho had agreed to sign for French moneybags outfit Monaco this summer.
French newspaper Le 10 Sport reports that the FC Porto man has agreed a move to the Principality during the summer instead of his expected switch to England with Tottenham.
The highly rated star nearly made the move to White Hart Lane last summer but to the frustration of Spurs supporters the transfer collapsed at the last minute.
Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas had hoped that a deal could be reignited this year in an attempt to work again with the 26-year-old again after they had such a successful time when AVB was in charge of Porto.
But it appears that the French side have persuaded Moutinho to make the move to the Principality and although a transfer fee is yet to be agreed between the two clubs, they are expected to pay the £35 million release clause to capture the midfielder.
Moutinho has an impressive record of 18 assists in his 38 games for the Portuguese side this season and he could add a lot to the Spurs midfield but the French side who are backed by Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev now look favourites to land him.
Is this the end for Spurs in their bid to land Moutinho? Rate this rumour below.
