Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are expecting a busy time ahead of the transfer window closing as the White Hart Lane attempt to spend some money expected to be raised from Gareth Bale’s impending departure to Real Madrid.
Daniel Jones from Metro has now arrived in the bar to suggest that Tottenham are now ready to reignite their interest in Steaua Bucharest centre back Vlad Chiriches.
Earlier reports had indicated that a possible deal for the 23-year-old was off when jailed Steaua owner Gigi Becali cancelled the deal due to Spurs’ desire to push the transfer through immediately.
However talks have now resumed and Andre Villas-Boas is reportedly confident of defeating interest from Serie A duo AC Milan and Roma to land the classy Romanian international in a £7 million deal.
Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has lined up a move for the defender as he looks to bolster his back line after the summer departures of Steven Caulker and William Gallas.
Chiriches, a stylish ball-playing defender, was a mainstay as Steaua reached the knockout stages of the Europa League last season, only to be defeated to Chelsea, and he has won 19 caps for Romania, bringing international repute with him.
Liverpool and Everton target Toby Alderweireld also remains an alternative if a deal for Chiriches collapses again.
Will Tottenham add the lesser-known Chiriches to their ranks this summer? Let us know your thoughts below.
