Tottenham set to rival Italian giants for 20-year-old wing wizard – report

Tottenham supporters have been in great voice in the Transfer Tavern this week after seeing their side pick up two hugely important victories over Real Madrid and Crystal Palace prior to the international break.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men may well have lost to Manchester United a fortnight ago to dent their Premier League title aspirations, but they soon bounced back a few days later by brilliantly beating Real Madrid 3-1 in the Champions League at Wembley, thus securing their place in the knockout stages for the first time since 2011. And they then backed that up with another significant win by edging past Roy Hodgson’s Palace 1-0, with Son Heung-min’s second half strike enough to draw them level on points with second place United in the Premier League table.

Consequently, there have been many delighted Tottenham fans in the Tavern this week, and they may well be intrigued by a recent report from CalcioMercato, which suggests that they are set to rival Italian giants Inter Milan and Juventus for the signature of Real Sociedad starlet Mikel Oyarzabal.

The 20-year-old forward came up through the youth ranks at the La Liga outfit to earn his senior debut for the club back in October 2015, when he came on as a substitute in their 4-0 win over Levante.

And the one-time Spain international has since gone from strength to strength with 17 goals and 13 assists in 77 subsequent appearances for the Spanish outfit, seven of which have come in just 11 matches so far this term to help them to seventh place in La Liga.

And it appears that his fine goal-scoring form has attracted the interest of Pochettino’s Spurs, who are reportedly set to rival Inter and Juventus for the 20-year-old’s signature, but whether they can indeed lure Oyarzabal to England ahead of the Italian duo very much remains to be seen.

Landlord’s verdict: Mikel Oyarzabal may only have made his senior debut for Real Sociedad little over two years ago, but he is already attracting interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs such have been his efforts for the Spanish side.

Six goals in just eight La Liga matches this term, including five in his last six, has reportedly alerted the likes of Tottenham, Inter Milan, and Juventus to the 20-year-old’s capabilities, and as such it looks particularly difficult for Sociedad to retain their prized asset in the coming transfer windows.

And given Mauricio Pochettino’s track record of giving young players a chance in the first team, the Spain international may well view Spurs as the best opportunity for him to go on and fulfil his undoubted potential.
