Simon Jones from Mail Online reports that Tottenham look set to land in demand French international midfielder Etienne Capoue in a bargain £8.6 milllion transfer after the Toulouse president admitted that a move was close.
The 24-year-old Frenchman, who scored seven goals in 34 league appearances for the Ligue 1 side last season, can play either as a defensive midfielder or at centre back and will certainly offer more versatility to Andre Villas-Boas’ Spurs side.
In an interview with French radio station RMC, Toulouse president Olivier Sadran suggested that Tottenham have stolen a march on their transfer rivals with Spanish side Atletico Madrid and Cardiff City also interested in the midfielder.
When asked about Capoue’s possible departure to England and to White Hart Lane in particular, Sadran is quoted in L’Equipe as telling RMC: “He will go there.”
Capoue, who is a towering figure at 6 ft 2 in tall, could now become the fourth summer signing for Andre Villas-Boas side with the player expected to sign a four-year contract at White Hart Lane after passing a medical with the club.
The North London club have already recruited Brazilian star Paulinho, Belgian international winger Nacer Chadli plus Spanish forward Roberto Soldado in a productive summer while the club are also trying to fend off Real Madrid’s advances for Welsh ace Gareth Bale.
