Tottenham supporters are making a right racket in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
They are of course celebrating today’s 1-0 victory courtesy of Brazilian international midfielder Paulinho who struck in the 92nd minute at Cardiff City.
Joyful chants fill the air in the bar but these are soon put to rest when interesting reports emerge from the Sunday People that Andre Villas-Boas is set to sign Romanian free agent Ciprian Marica.
This is after the striker snubbed interest from Arsenal and West Ham United to join the White Hart Lane outfit.
The Lilywhites spent over £107 million in the recent transfer window but only Roberto Soldado arrived to spearhead the attack and Spurs fans believe they still look relatively short in the final third.
Marica who has been capped over 60 times by Romania, is looking for a £60,000-a-week three-year deal at the club after the forward saw his contract with Bundesliga outfit Schalke terminated at the end of last season
His club CV is impressive, playing for Shakhtar Donetsk and Stuttgart in a wandering career around Europe over the past decade and he has netted 22 goals for his country.
Spurs boss Villas-Boas wants to move flop forward Emmanuel Adebayor and young Harry Kane out of North London, freeing up a slot for Marica.
If the deal cannot be done, Villas-Boas will be under some pressure from Daniel Levy to bring £100,000-a-week outcast Adebayor in from the cold after the £9.3 million striker was banished to training with the youth ranks at White Hart Lane.
Will Marica fit the bill at White Hart Lane? Let us know your thoughts below.
