Tottenham should demand CB who cost £4.5m in part-exchange swap for Christian Eriksen

The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are growing increasingly concerned by rumours linking their star players with transfers away from the club.

Christian Eriksen is no stranger to rumours linking him with a move away from Tottenham Hotpsur as the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid have both been identified as potential destinations for the Denmark international in recent weeks, however, Juventus have also emerged as an interested party according to reports in Italy.

The Italian media outlet Calciomercato believe the Old Lady are keeping tabs on Eriksen in North London in case they are forced to accept a huge bid for Miralem Pjanic this summer. Fortunately for the Tottenham supporters, the report claims that Juventus would only consider offers in excess of 65 million euros, but in the modern economic climate that figure is well within the realms of possibility.

With that being said, Tottenham should at least consider the possibility that they may enter negotiations with Juventus this summer as Eriksen is yet to agree a new contract with the club. Daniel Levy has established a strong reputation for being a shrewd negotiator in the years gone by, and he must utilise all of his expertise to secure a cash plus player deal if they are unable to convince Eriksen to remain at the club.

Juventus have plenty of top quality talents who Tottenham would be wise to ask for in return, but with Toby Alderweireld seemingly on the verge of leaving the club, they should ensure that Daniele Rugani moves to North London as part of the deal. The 23-year-old Italian centre-back cost Juventus just £4.5 million to sign from Empoli back in 2015, but his value has sky-rocketed during his career with the club thus far.

Although he has faced strong competition for a starting berth from the likes of Giorgio Chiellini, Benedikt Howedes and Medhi Benatia, he managed to make 22 appearances in Serie A last season, although his Champions League campaign was limited to just 2 appearances.

Rugani possesses the skill set to slot into Pochettino’s side with complete confidence; he is an intelligent reader of the game, composed in possession and a commanding aerial presence, so he would certainly ease the burden of Alderweireld’s departure if Spurs were able to convince him to join the club.

Naturally, selling Eriksen is the last deal Pochettino and Levy will want to conclude this summer, but if he eventually decides that he would like to join Juventus then the pairing will need to be pragmatic and ensure that they receive a significant cash sum plus Rugani in exchange for his services.
