According to the Express, Tottenham want to make a move for Barcelona midfielder Andre Gomes, leaving our resident Lilywhites feeling very excited indeed. The 24-year-old midfielder made headlines back in 2016 for his performances for his country, earning him a move to Barcelona as a result. It hasn’t quite worked out for him since that point, but our landlord still thinks that he would be the perfect January signing for the Lilywhites.
After all, where else would be a better place for Gomes to regain his form than at Tottenham under Mauricio Pochettino. The Argentine has been fantastic at getting the best out of players that had previously been struggling. during his stint at Tottenham. A great example is Moussa Sissoko. He has been reborn this season after Pochettino moved him to more of a central role, and the Argentine could certainly have a similar effect on Gomes. Let’s not forget, he’s the same player that just a few years ago was dominant through the midfield.
What’s more, the Spurs team is set up perfectly to accommodate for him. Pochettino has got the team playing fast-flowing football, much like Barcelona, and his style of play suits that perfectly. He’s a midfield creator by trade, excelling with the ball at his feet and when firing it forward. That’s something that Tottenham lack at present, and so the prospect of him lining up alongside Victor Wanyama and Harry Winks has left our resident Lilywhites drooling into their pint glasses.
With Mousa Dembele already in his 30s, Pochettino must be looking ahead. In Gomes, he could have the perfect replacement for the veteran Belgian, whilst making Tottenham’s quality even better all the while.
It’s a no-brainer, agreed?
