Tottenham should look to sign this £27m-rated one-time PL winner in January – agreed?

The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern think that their side could do with a bit of an upgrade in January. The Lilywhites have had a very up and down season so far, with Mauricio Pochettino failing to get his side back to its consistent best.

Fortunately, with the transfer window now open, the Lilywhites have an opportunity to bring in some proven quality, and our landlord thinks that Leicester City star Riyad Mahrez could be the perfect signing.

The Algerian has proven his worth as one of Europe’s best midfielders in recent years. Particularly during Leicester City’s title charge, he was the Premier League’s most impressive player, and he has shown his quality in fits and bursts ever since. This season, for the most part, he has been very solid, contributing 6 goals and 6 assists along the way.

Offering technical brilliance, fantastic attacking play and incredible trickery, the midfielder could be the perfect addition to a Tottenham midfield that is stumbling somewhat. Both Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen have been the subject of a lot of criticism over the course of the season, with neither performing at their best. Nothing will force them to improve quite like bringing in a player like Mahrez, who could certainly give them a run for their money in the Spurs first team.

Rated at £27 million by Transfer Markt, Mahrez won’t be cheap, but Tottenham would struggle to find a better, proven option in January.
