The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager for Mauricio Pochettino to bring in a bit more offensive depth in January. Harry Kane has been sensational this term, as he always is, but the Englishman needs more competition – and our landlord thinks that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could be the perfect partner.
Known for his pace, Aubameyang has enjoyed a fantastic few years in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. He scored 31 league goals last season, which followed a 25 goal haul the year before. This season, he has already bagged 11 goals, and so there can be no doubting his goalscoring pedigree. Providing technical ability, incredible pace and lethal goalscoring, the Gabon forward is arguably the complete forward.
He’d also compliment Harry Kane fantastically. They could play separately, of course, which would allow Kane some much needed time off occasionally, but they could shine together if given an opportunity. Whilst Kane’s game is based on positioning and poaching, Aubameyang would look to run at defenders and play off the shoulder of the last defender. When combined, given both player’s goalscoring records, the results could be simply magical.
Significantly, Aubameyang could be available this January given reports of a fallout at Borussia Dortmund. Tottenham have fallen behind somewhat in the Premier League title race, but if they were to move for a player as good as Aubameyang, nobody could doubt their title credentials.
He’s rated at £58.5 million by Transfer Markt, and so a move won’t be easy, but what a signing he would be.
