The Tottenham Hotspur fans in the Transfer Tavern are encouraged by recent reports from Holland which claim Justin Kluivert has publicly lambasted the Ajax hierarchy and is ready to walk away from the club this summer.
Justin Kluivert – son of the Dutch legend Patrick – has established quite the reputation this season due to his eye-catching performances in the Dutch Eridivisie, and his family background has certainly contributed to his rapidly increasing fame in Europe. Kluivert has plenty of expectation to live up to in European football and it will certainly represent a tall order to emulate his father’s achievements in the game, but the early indications imply that he is well-placed to give him a run for his money.
The 19-year-old has been attracting plenty of interest across the continent this season after scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists for Ajax in 30 Eridivisie appearances. And that interest is bound to intensify this summer, as Kluivert recently slammed the Ajax hierarchy during an interview with the Dutch media outlet Volkskrant for using him as a tool to accumulate funds instead of focussing on his long-term future and development.
With only 1 year remaining on his current deal, it seems certain that Ajax will cash in on Kluivert (valued at £6.75 million by Transfermarkt) this summer in order to ensure they receive a transfer fee for him, rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the season. The same report from Volkskrant suggests that the Ajax hierarchy attempted to sell Kluivert to Tottenham last summer without consulting him prior to engaging in negotiations with the Lilywhites.
Therefore it’s fair to assume that Mauricio Pochettino is interested in bringing Kluivert to North London this summer, but he must be ready for a tough fight to secure his services if he eventually makes a bid for the Dutch wonderkid. Kluviert’s agent Mino Raiola is notorious in the footballing world for possessing an extensive portfolio of superstars, so there’s no doubt he has plenty of contacts at all the top clubs in Europe and will be pushing for a lucrative deal for his client.
With that in mind, Pochettino looks set to face a fight with both Europe’s elite clubs and Raiola himself who will accept nothing less than a lucrative contract for his in-demand client. Spurs will be desperate to sign Kluivert this summer as he looks destined to become a star in European football, but they must be prepared to face their toughest battle of the summer in order to secure his signature during the transfer window.
