And according to talkSPORT, Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on one of their transfer targets Davide Astori.
The North London outfit were reportedly very interested in the Italian international however it he has now shunned a move to the Premier League.
The 27-year-old defender has instead signed a new three-year extension with Serie A side Cagliari – the club formerly owned by Leeds United chairman Massimo Cellino.
Astori told Cagliari’s official website: “I’ve been here six years now and I’ve grown up and matured while in Sardinia.
“I wanted to show my gratitude to Cagliari. I thank president [Tommaso] Giulini: it is a decision we took together.”
Cagliari director of sport Francesco Marroccu added: “We are extremely proud we have kept hold of one of our greatest professionals.
“Davide was in the last year of his contract and so the fact he wanted to renew with us shows he has great faith in the club.”
The news comes as a blow to Spurs who are desperately trying to add reinforcements to their defence with the future of Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen anything but certain.
