Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with Real Madrid regarding a potential move for Dani Ceballos, according to a report by Sky Sports.
It is claimed a short-term deal is the most likely outcome should an agreement come to fruition, as the 22-year-old has no intention of leaving Spain permanently any time soon.
It is suggested that Ceballos’ high release clause and the fact that he has a lengthy contract is unlikely to go in Spurs’ favour should they look to try and strike a permanent arrangement for him.
Ceballos had an exceptional Under-21 European Championship tournament with Spain and his stats only appear to have further highlighted his potential.
According to WhoScored, Ceballos was brilliant for Spain as he managed an average of 3 shots per game, 2.8 key passes, 3.8 completed dribbles, 2 tackles and 1 interception which could benefit Tottenham in a new-look midfield following Tanguy Ndombele’s arrival (club’s official website).
A short-term deal could be perfect for Spurs though, as the 22-year-old may not necessarily adapt to English football, therefore, making it a low-risk acquisition for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
If he excels, then it might be difficult to sign him permanently or on a relatively low fee, however, a loan deal could take the pressure off of a possible gamble and the Lilywhites can look to cross that bridge next summer should they want to.
But, with Liverpool allegedly snooping around, it would seem Tottenham have already made the first steps in trying to reach an agreement with Real Madrid, as his stats would suggest he could be a player too good to miss out on.
