It’s been a relatively quiet summer for Tottenham supporters in the Football Transfer Tavern, certainly in comparison to 12 months ago.
But The Telegraph has some news regarding a possible exciting new arrival at White Hart Lane, as well as an imminent departure.
Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino is on the verge of landing Argentine centre back Mateo Musacchio from Villarreal and is ready to sell Younes Kaboul in order to make room.
Pochettino hopes to land the 23-year-old for £17 million this summer and hopes to partner him in central defence alongside Jan Vertonghen this season, with summer signing Eric Dier providing cover.
That will leave Kaboul and Michael Dawson surplus to requirements and Lazio have made an enquiry about bringing Kaboul to Italy.
However, they are hoping to pay considerably less than the £6 million Tottenham want for the former Portsmouth defender, given his history of injuries.
Dawson also has a £6 million price tag, which has put off both Hull City and Queens Park Rangers.
Both players are set to see their price tag drop as the close of the transfer window edges closer with Pochettino eager to see them make way for Musacchio.
He hopes his fellow countryman – who has been previously linked with Barcelona – can improve a Tottenham defence that leaked 20 goals both home and away to the Premier League’s top two last season.
