Tim Sherwood’s side have to overturn a one-nil deficit from the first leg to ensure progress to the round of the last 16 and one man they will call upon is summer signing Roberto Soldado.
The Spanish international striker arrived in a £26 million switch from Valencia, but he has only scored once from open play in the Premier League and has now gone seven games without a goal since converting a penalty against Stoke City back in December.
Now the suggestions from talkSPORT are that the Lilywhites are ready to cut their losses with the 28-year-old in the summer after less than 12 months with Atletico Madrid interested in bringing him back to Spain.
The publication reports that the La Liga high flyers are considering a move for the White Hart Lane misfit as they look to replace Diego Costa.
The Brazilian-born striker looks likely to leave with immense interest from across Europe and given his reported £32 million release clause they could struggle to keep hold of him.
Sherwood has now told Soldado ‘the time is now’ to prove your worth to the club but if he fails, surely a move away could suit all parties?
We’re not convinced that Soldado is going to ever cut it at White Hart Lane but do you think he deserves another season? Let us know your thoughts below.
