Tottenham fans in the Football Transfer Tavern were already resigned to the fact that Jan Vertonghen wouldn’t be playing football at White Hart Lane next season.
But according to Metro, the Belgian international could be set to make a u-turn with the defender now undecided on his future.
Lilywhites fan favourite Vertonghen was known to dislike Tim Sherwood and his decision to leave North London would have been certain had his tenure continued.
But now that Sherwood has received the axe from Daniel Levy at the club, Vertonghen is apparently open to discussing his future.
Vertonghen has made his desire for Champions League football no secret but it’s something that Spurs have so far been unable to supply him with.
But with two years left on his contract, Vertonghen may be powerless to leave the club if they do in fact decide to keep him.
But Vertonghen could find his decision made for him with the North London club unlikely to hold on too tight if a reasonable offer does come on for the 27-year-old.
He may have enjoyed a superb first season at the club when he joined from Ajax but his form this season has been patchy at best with a lot of signs of unrest.
Serie A seems the most likely destination should a bid come in for the centre back with Roma rumoured to be among his suitors after the Italian club secured their place in next season’s Champions League.
