A debate has broken out in the Football Transfer Tavern on who is the worst Premier League signing of last summer.
Plenty have gone for Maraoune Fellaini after another poor display for Manchester United last night.
Another name being thrown into the mix is Tottenham’s club record signing Erik Lamela, who was billed as the £30 million replacement for Gareth Bale.
However, the Argentine winger has struggled to make any sort of impact for Tottenham, managing just 10 appearances in all competitions and just one goal – which came in a Europa League group stage clash.
Rumours have suggested the 22-year-old will be looking to leave White Hart Lane in the summer, after struggling to settle in North London while suffering problems learning the English language.
But Metro reports that Lamela will be staying at Tottenham next season, after his brother Brian revealed he had no plans to quit in a Q&A session on Twitter.
Lamela has been out injured since December, and is yet to make an appearance under Tim Sherwood, who has not been shy in questioning some of his players’ characters.
But when asked if Lamela would quit the club in the summer if Sherwood loses his job, his brother Brian simply replied: ‘No’.
The winger has been linked with a return to Italy, with former club Roma reportedly keen to take him back.
Has Lamela been the worst signing of last summer or does that title go to his team-mate Roberto Soldado? Let us know your thoughts below.
