Tottenham fans are hoping the club offload Benoit Assou-Ekotto to either Crystal Palace or Queens Park Rangers but The Mirror explain that his wage demands are proving a stumbling block.
It is believed that the 30-year-old is currently raking in a salary of around £40,000-a-week which is putting off the two interested clubs.
The out-of-favour Lilywhites defender seems stubborn given his situation and doesn’t seem to be in any particular rush to reduce his salary in order to play first team football.
He could play a key role in either London side as he brings a wealth of expierence as well being a cool head at the back.
But it is thought that both clubs in the bottom half of the table have lost interest which has left his Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino fuming.
The Argentine boss fears that the Cameroon international will be content with sitting out for the following seven months, winding down his contract.
It seems, as things stand, that the only way Daniel Levy will be able to get him off his books would be to temporarily pay off his contract whilst he was at his new club.
Tottenham fans. Assou-Ekotto seemed to enjoy a good start at Tottenham. Where did it all go wrong for the Cameroonian? Let us know your thoughts below.
