Tottenham still facing tough test to land defender despite reportedly agreeing terms

Though the Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are optimistic about this season, they are keen for their side to sign a few more players before the summer is over…

It’s been a decent start to the season for the Lilywhites, with a 2-0 win over Newcastle on the opening day certainly impressing the fans in the pub, but they think that the hard work is far from done.

Tottenham have yet to sign anyone this summer, and whilst their side is up there with the best in the Premier League, their lack of squad improvement does pose reason for concern.

However, fortunately, it does appear as though the Lilywhites are ready to spend some money, and whilst there is good news on that front – it does come with a dose of caution.

According to L’Equipe, Tottenham have agreed terms with PSG defender Serge Aurier for a move to London, though they have yet to agree terms with the French outfit. Significantly, Aurier is also said to have agreed terms with Juventus and Inter Milan – meaning that Tottenham’s move for the right-back will be no easy feat.

Moving to the Premier League will likely entice the Frenchman, but the tough task of convincing PSG to part with the defender for a good price could pose more of a problem for Tottenham. Beyond that, trying to fend off the Italian giants will be difficult too.

Landlord’s Verdict

Aurier is exactly the sort of player that Tottenham need. Defensively he is strong and offensively he is every bit as good as Kyle Walker – and Tottenham are still yet to replace the Englishman since he moved to Man City.

If he can be signed for a good price, Aurier would represent a talented, experienced option for Pochettino.
