Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are shocked at the story coming from IBTimes that Tottenham are considering a move for long time Manchester United transfer target and Everton full back Leighton Baines.
The Lilywhites are looking to move for the highly rated full back who has already been tracked by Manchester United and Chelsea in the past. Now it seems that Andre Villas-Boas is also thinking about a move for the England international and it seems that the battle for Baines is set to be ramped up.
Everton are determined to hold onto the full back and even with the uncertainty surrounding the future of David Moyes, the Toffees would be reluctant to sell their prized asset. Sir Alex Ferguson did consider a move for the player previously but deemed the £15 million price tag too high. Of course after winning title number 20 this week they may well now reconsider.
Spurs may well be considering a move now and could easily raise the cash – especially if their PFA Player of the Year and star man Gareth Bale did complete a summer transfer to Real Madrid. Should David Moyes move clubs it is also a major possibility that he would attempt to take Baines with him.
