With how Tottenham Hotspur have recently been playing in the Premier League, fans would be forgiven if they were a little anxious about their meeting with Liverpool on Sunday. Mauricio Pochettino’s side have looked fragile at times and fans have had to witness their team collapse against the likes of Chelsea and Southampton in recent top-flight outings.
And, things may get even worse for Pochettino and his side when they take to the field at Anfield as he has a number of players unavailable for the trip.
What’s the News?
According to the club’s official website, Eric Dier, Serge Aurier and Harry Winks all remain on the sidelines and will not make the trip to Merseyside.
Dier and Aurier were both injured whilst on international duty with hip and hamstring problems respectively, whilst Winks continues to undergo treatment for his groin concern.
The news that the three men will be unavailable will have come as a blow to Pochettino and Tottenham’s chances of picking up the three points on Sunday afternoon.
Dier and Winks have both been able to perform to an excellent standard in front of the defence when fit and have made a real difference to the side when they have been able to play at times this season.
Admittedly, Dier has struggled with injuries throughout the campaign, however, his experience in the midfield would have been vital for the size of Sunday’s match, as a place in the top four could be at risk if Spurs do not manage to obtain a positive result.
Aurier may not have been considered too much of a blow by many, however, with how Kieran Trippier has been playing in recent weeks, the Ivorian could have replaced his colleague and offered Tottenham something going forward as well as some reassurances at the back, although the attacking threat of Sadio Mane will likely give fans nightmares.
A positive result is vital for Spurs, however, with the three men unavailable, it might just be a task too difficult for Pochettino to complete.
Tottenham fans, how confident are you of being able to get a result on Sunday? Do you think the trio will be missed? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
