Tottenham Hotspur will look to bounce back immediately when they meet Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
Spurs were on the wrong end of a surprise 2-1 defeat to Burnley at the weekend, putting a real dent in their hopes of challenging for the Premier League title.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side managed to beat the Blues in the reverse fixture this season in fine fashion and the Argentine will want to see his side produce a performance of that calibre once again.
However, according to the club’s official website, some potentially bad news has emerged ahead of the trip to west London.
Eric Dier’s medical problems appear to be continuing as he has been struck down with tonsillitis and remains unavailable for the game.
The England international had only just managed to return to first-team action following a bout of appendicitis, however, he has not been able to feature since their 1-0 win against Newcastle United at the beginning of February.
Dele Alli also remains unavailable for Tottenham as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury that has been troubling him.
Dier’s absence could come as a huge blow to Pochettino and Tottenham’s chances of taking all three points against Chelsea on Wednesday.
The defensive midfielder plays an important role in front of the back line and if fit, he would certainly have been on the team-sheet.
Tottenham will not want to lose this fixture, regardless of the rivalry between the two sides, as they will want to keep the gap between them and those battling for fourth at a comfortable distance.
