Tottenham Hotspur appear to have taken to life in their new stadium rather well. Two wins out of two so far, including the Champions League quarter-final victory against Manchester City earlier in the week. Mauricio Pochettino’s side will now have the perfect opportunity to make it three in three against relegated Huddersfield Town on Saturday afternoon.
However, Spurs will have been handed some rather concerning injury news ahead of the game as a number of players are thought to be unavailable for the encounter with the Terriers.
What’s the News?
According to a match preview by Sky Sports, Pochettino could be without up to five first-team players for their encounter with Huddersfield.
Harry Kane became the latest casualty for Spurs as he suffered a rather serious ankle injury in their last match against Manchester City in the Champions League and will join Eric Dier (hip), Erik Lamela and Serge Aurier (both hamstrings) on the sidelines.
Dele Alli was also injured in the midweek encounter, as he broke his hand in two places, however, he is only considered a doubt for the game.
First things first, Kane’s latest injury will have come as a huge blow to Tottenham as it has been obvious how important he has been for Pochettino’s side over the years. With one foot in the next round of the Champions League, Spurs would have been looking at him to help guide them to the semi-final and get past Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
With just a month of the campaign left to go, it is highly unlikely that the England international will be seen back in action, even if he were to produce the same type of recovery he managed to achieve during his last ankle injury.
Although Tottenham should have enough about them to get past Huddersfield and keep their hopes of obtaining a top-four finish alive, Alli’s setback will have also come as a blow and they will be hoping his latest concern is not too damaging.
The midfielder has already been absent for plenty of the current campaign due to spells on the sidelines and his influence in the middle of the field has been evidently missed at times.
The fact that Alli is only considered a doubt for the game will be positive news though, as there is a chance that he could be close to a return and could still be available for their run-in.
With the number of injuries to key players starting to pile up, it could be a concerning time for Tottenham and Pochettino.
