Tottenham Hotspur will return to the Etihad Stadium for the second time in a matter of days when they take on Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, although this time in the Premier League.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side managed to pull off a famous win in the Champions League in midweek, however, that result appears to have come at a cost as one of their key men has given Spurs some concerning news heading into the top-flight encounter.
What’s the News?
According to a match preview by Sky Sports, Moussa Sissoko has joined Erik Lamela as being doubtful for the trip back to Manchester.
The France international was forced off in the first half with a groin injury and will need to be assessed ahead of kickoff.
Lamela was expected to be able to take to the substitutes bench in midweek, however, his recovery from his hamstring injury has not gone as planned and he continues to be doubtful.
If Tottenham fans were told 12 months ago that Sissoko would have been doubtful for a match, it is likely not many of them would have been too concerned. However, the Frenchman has shown why he was brought to north London this season as he has been a stellar performer.
Sissoko used to attract plenty of criticism for his displays, however, he has since come into his own and has played a pivotal role in Spurs’ midfield and appears to have become the go-to option for Pochettino.
Although Victor Wanyama managed to put in a solid performance in midweek, it may be difficult for the Kenya international to play two high-intensity matches in a row because of the limited opportunities he has had because of his injuries.
Sissoko’s injury is rather concerning as it appeared to be one of those that was rather innocuous and Spurs will be hoping he is not out for too long as they continue to fight for a place within the top-four.
Lamela is also another headache for Tottenham and Pochettino as they had hoped he would have been available in midweek, but it appears his recovery from the hamstring injury just is not going to plan.
The Argentina international would have offered Spurs some fresh legs in attack and could be a useful option if he were fit.
Tottenham fans, how concerning is Sissoko’s injury? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
