Tottenham team news: Winks available for Spurs’ first match at their new home - Latest News

Although there will be plenty of excitement in the air for Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday in regards to playing their first match at the new stadium, their fixture with Crystal Palace could not be any more important.

Spurs are currently on a poor run in the Premier League and have seen their place in the top four appear far from certain as the season comes to its conclusion. However, Mauricio Pochettino may have been handed some potentially great news ahead of the game against the Eagles.

What’s the News?

According to the club’s official website, Harry Winks is in the frame to make a return to first-team action.

The England international has been out on the sidelines with a groin injury for the past month, however, he has managed to return to training and has put himself in contention.

Fernando Llorente is unavailable after clashing heads with Fabinho in the defeat to Liverpool, as is Erik Lamela, who picked up a hamstring strain in training, whilst Serge Aurier (hamstring) and Eric Dier (hip flexor muscle strain) remain out.

The Verdict:

Wednesday night’s game against Crystal Palace is certainly a going to be a moment in the history books for Tottenham and the news that Winks is available will certainly come as a boost to Pochettino’s side.

The midfielder has been a standout when he has played as he has managed to form a rather solid partnership with Moussa Sissoko in the middle of the field and has thrived in being a key figure for Spurs this season.

The 23-year-old has come up with a number of important contributions over the course of the campaign, which have been needed at times, with the likes of Dier out on the sidelines and Victor Wanyama seemingly not up to the task any more.

With the match against Palace a potential banana skin and the fact that they are in a new environment, having Winks available could potentially be great news, even if Dier, Aurier, Llorente and Lamela are all unavailable.

Tottenham fans, how good is it to hear that Winks is available for the Crystal Palace match? How important of a player has he become to the side? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
