Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to prove all the doubters wrong following the transfer window with a solid performance against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The pair meet at St. James’ Park in the lunchtime fixture and Mauricio Pochettino will want to see his side start their Premier League campaign strongly.
However, according to a match preview by Sky Sports, the test of Newcastle may have come too early for Tottenham, as nine of their players had only just returned to training at the beginning of the week.
Toby Alderweireld, Dele Alli, Mousa Dembele, Eric Dier, Harry Kane, Hugo Lloris, Danny Rose, Kieran Trippier and Jan Vertonghen have only just got back to the club following their exploits at the World Cup, however, Pochettino has declared himself happy.
It is believed the manager will assess his players ahead of the clash, although he will be without Victor Wanyama and Erik Lamela after both suffered injuries during pre-season.
Tottenham will be looking to follow on from last season’s strong campaign, however, there will be a concern that some of his key men have only just returned.
Spurs will be heavily relying on Kane to get the goals for them again, however, it remains to be seen what condition he will be in, especially after a long summer.
There has been a lot of talk about Spurs’ decision to not bring any new faces to the club this summer, although they did not let anyone leave either, which could prove to be the best thing for the club.
