Adrian Kajumba has arrived in the Football Transfer Tavern with exciting transfer news which has caused punters to put down their pints and listen carefully.
The Daily Star journalist reports that Tottenham are planning to revisit their interest in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke when the January window opens and are preparing a bid worth £28 million to land the Belgian international.
Benteke was a transfer target for Andre Villas-Boas during the summer after he handed a request to leave Villa Park but in a sudden U-turn he decided to sign a new £40,000-a-week contract with the West Midlands side.
Despite this it appears that Villas-Boas is ready to try his hand again and continue his lavish spending since selling Gareth Bale to Real Madrid for £86 million in August.
Spurs had made a bid in the region of £20 million during the summer but Villa were desperate to keep hold of the player who netted 23 goals in his debut season at Villa Park.
The White Hart Lane club hope that an offer worth four times what Villa paid Genk less than 18 months ago will be enough to land the 22-year-old striker who will play at the World Cup with Belgium this summer.
He had already started the new campaign in similar fashion, netting five times and that could also see interest emerging from Liverpool and Arsenal, who both require more attackers in January, but Spurs are thought to be leading the race.
Do Tottenham stand a realistic chance of landing Benteke in January? Let us know your thoughts below.
