It sounds like Christian Benteke’s name will crop up a lot in the Football Transfer Tavern this window, especially considering that The Sun are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur will wait until the end of the window to get Aston Villa’s prized asset.
Benteke is rumoured to be wanted by a number of clubs, including Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and Chelsea but Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy is confident he can get his man for a discounted £20 million rather than the £30 million asking price that Villa have set.
In his debut season in English football, the 22-year-old notched an impressive for 23 goals for the relegation threatened Villans and you can definitely understand Tottenham’s desire to sign the Belgium international, when you consider Emmanuel Adebayor and Jermain Defoe scored the same number of goals as Benteke, in all competitions.
Andre Villas-Boas is ready to listen to offers for Adebayor and Defoe in order to fund a move for the man that cost Aston Villa £7 million from Genk, only 12 months ago.
With the exciting addition of Paulinho and the prospect of Benteke joining Gareth Bale & co next season, the regulars are tipping the North London club to finally achieve Champions League football again this time round.
