Tottenham to pursue bargain deal?

capel.jpgThey may be facing a summer of panic over the future of Gareth Bale but today Metro claim it is a player who may be arriving that has get us all talking here at the Football Transfer Tavern.

Andre Villas-Boas has been offered a bargain deal to sign Spanish intrnational Diego Capel from Sporting Lisbon and it is all down to the club’s financial state. The Portuguese outfit are struggling to raise funds and are eyeing selling some of their top players in order to keep themselves afloat.

The winger has been on the radar of Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy for a while now and during the ill-fated reign of Juande Ramos, the club tried to land Capel not once but twice only to be rejected. Now however the 25-year-old may be on his way to White Hart Lane and for an astounding price of only £5 million.

The issue is not the player’s form or ability, more his huge wages and like so many other clubs, Lisbon are dying a death paying players money they simply cannot afford and Capel will not be the only one for sale this summer. Chelsea old boy Khalid Boulahrouz and Dutchman Stijn Schaars are also on the market.

Spurs will not be the only club in for the winger this summer however with both Swansea City and Liverpool mulling over a move for Capel yet AVB is confident Spurs remain the front runners and is willing to use every trick in the book in order to land him.

Will Capel be winging his way into White Hart Lane this summer? Rate this rumour below.
