Tottenham to solve striking issues with £20m Belgian swoop?

Romelu Lukaku Punters in the Football Transfer Tavern are looking up with bated breath as our landlord tells us what Metro think will happen to Romelu Lukaku.

The Chelsea forward looks like leaving Stamford Bridge this summer and it seems that as we discussed the other day, he could be joining one of the Blues’ London rivals.

Tottenham Hotspur are the only side to have made a firm cash offer for Lukaku that matches anywhere near Chelsea’s valuation of the former West Bromwich Albion and Everton loanee.

Despite poor showings at the World Cup by Lukaku’s standards, Spurs are still keen to offer £20 million for him, plus performance related add-ons should he succeed as the Lilywhites expect.

The Blues are willing to let Lukaku leave for that price and will reinvest the money from the sale in other areas of their squad. Transfer priorities for Jose Mourinho now revolve around the purchase of a new left back with Atletico Madrid’s Filipe Luis heavily linked as well as another striker.

Meanwhile, Spurs are desperate not to make the same transfer window mistakes that they committed last summer and will now move for players who are proven in the top flight of English football – with Lukaku certainly falling into that category.

Chelsea fans. Despite Lukaku turning out for your London rivals Spurs next season, would you take £20 million and run? Let us know your thoughts below.
