There are more than a few interested faces here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from Metro.
The publication note that Tottenham Hotspur are willing to test the resolve of Chelsea and Jose Mourinho when it comes to Romelu Lukaku.
The Belgian striker has been on loan at Everton this season and has been rather successful to say the least.
Now, as our punters remind us over a beer, Chelsea are willing to sell the player in the summer in order to bring in another couple of word class forwards, but thus far have maintained that an English club will not benefit from the sale.
However, Spurs and Tim Sherwood are willing to take a gamble and put an £18 million bid on the table for the player – and test the Blue’s resolve.
After seeing big money purchase Roberto Soldado flop this season, Sherwood has decided to bring in players who are accustomed to the Premier League and are proven at the top level.
Our landlord tells us that Lukaku is certainly that, and may well want to stay in England after building his career here. The only snag could well be the fact that Spurs are not in the Champions League next season.
Do you think Chelsea would consider selling Lukaku to one of their ‘rivals’? Let us know your thoughts below.
